The Priority Industry Training (PIT) program is set by the Department of Training and Workforce Development WA (DTWD). The PIT program gives eligible Western Australian residents access to government subsidised training in priority training areas.

To be eligible for government assistance, prospective participants must meet and provide evidence for the following eligibility criteria:.

You are eligible for PIT funding if:

  • You are 15 years of age or older (students under 18 must have a DOE notice of arrangement).
  • Have a Unique Student Identifier (USI)
  • Are a Western Australia resident – an Australian Citizen or permanent resident living in Western Australia, not a resident of Christmas or Cocos Islands
  • You cannot have not an active apprenticeship/traineeship contract

You are eligible for concession funding if you:

  • Hold a Concession card or are the dependant of a Concession card holder.
  • Hold a Pensioner Concession card
  • Hold a Repatriation Health Benefits Card issued by the Department of veteran’s Affairs
  • A Health Care Card
  • Recipients of the Commonwealth’s JobKeeper payments and their dependants.
  • Recipients of the following Commonwealth Support or employment service programs and their dependants: – Jobactive, ParentsNext, Online Employment Services
  • Persons or dependants in receipt of AUSTUDY or ABSTUDY
  • Persons or dependants in receipt of Youth Allowance
  • Persons or dependants who are inmates of a custodial Institution
  • Secondary School aged persons, not enrolled at School

* A unit of Study  (UOS) has a duration of 5 weeks and students are provided with a withdrawal date up to 20% of that time.

Lower Fees Local Skills discount

  • Persons aged 15—24 years at the time of enrolment (excluding students enrolled at school)
  • Persons and dependents of persons receiving JobKeeper payment
  • Recipients of the following Commonwealth Support or employment service programs and their dependants: – Jobactive, ParentsNext, Online Employment Services
  • Persons and dependents of persons receiving the Youth Allowance, AUSTUDY or ABSTUDY
  • Persons or dependants in receipt of a pensioner concession card or Health Care Card
  • Persons or dependants who are inmates of a custodial Institution

* Low Fees are capped annually for eligible students @$400.00/yr for concession and $1200.00/yr for non-concession

Fees Exemptions and Wavers

Students not enrolled at school are exempt from course and resource fees if they:

  • are under the care of the Chief Executive Officer of the Department of Communities; and
  • are a secondary school-aged person; or
  • are under 18 years of age

Students may access a Fee waiver if they are experiencing severe financial hardship for courses. Students must provide evidence of thier reasoning in line with the departments criteria for financial hardship.

Financial Hardship Criteria

A Fee waver cannot be given unless all of the following criteria are met:

  1. The student’s income must not exceed the Department of Human Services income thresholds for the low income health care card, as outlined in the table below:
  2. The student does not have the disposable income to pay the fees via instalments without compromising their ability to meet their basic living needs or those of their dependents
  3. There is no basis for concluding that the student’s financial circumstances are likely to change within a reasonable period (e.g. 12 months)
