School Based Traineeships

About the training

School-based traineeships are employment-based pathways towards a qualification for secondary school students (Years 10 , 11 and 12), allowing the trainee the opportunity to gain a genuine employment experience.

The student will be working towards their secondary schooling for their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) and/or Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) while also being employed.

Employers may also be entitled to access federal funding for taking on a school based trainee.

Strategix also offers a range of courses for those who wish to complete Vocational Training in School (VETiS) at a certificate II level and are is funded by the Queensland Government. To see a full list of VETiS funded courses refer to our VETiS Funding page.

Fully Subsidised training (Fee-Free)

While the student remains* in school the training remains fully subsidised through the Queensland government under the User Choice Program.

*When a student converts from a school-based trainee to a full-time or part-time traineeship, the student contribution fees may be charged for training and assessment for any units of competency not yet commenced. This does not apply when the student is under 21 and is undertaking a high priority qualification as identified by the department.
