Career Boost

Certificate IV and subsidised Skill Set training for Queenslanders
About the funding

Career Boost helps Queenslanders grow the higher-level skills needed to secure jobs, advance in their careers, or transition into new roles, while also supporting workplace productivity and innovation.

Subsidised training under Career Boost

Under Career Boost, an individual may access either:

  • one subsidised training place in either a certificate IV, diploma or advanced diploma qualification under the general training pathway

       or

  • a higher level apprenticeship/traineeship in a certificate IV or above.

In addition, under Career Boost, students may access 2 subsidised skill sets in priority industries or sectors.

If the student has already accessed 2 apprenticeships/traineeships through a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship (SAT) or Career Start within the last 10 years, they are not eligible to undertake an apprenticeship/traineeship under Career Boost.

A student cannot do 2 general training pathway qualifications under Career Boost.

What is a general training qualification?

The term general qualification refers to training courses and skill sets that are open for direct enrolment and are conducted face-to-face at one of our convenient locations or online. Unlike an apprenticeship or traineeship, general qualification enrolments do not require a formal training contract with an employer, making it a flexible way to gain recognised skills and qualifications to start a new career or improve your current employment options.

What is an apprenticeship/traineeship?

For apprenticeships and traineeships, an individual must be employed as an apprentice or trainee. This pathway is part of the Australian Apprenticeships system and requires all parties to sign an Apprenticeship and Traineeship Training Contract.
