Career Start

Certificate III Nationally Accredited subsidised training for Queenslanders
About the funding

Career Start provides subsidised post-school training opportunities to help Queenslanders being their careers, or progress into more skilled roles or full-time employment. Individuals are required to pay a reduced co-contribution fee to gain access to the government subsidy.

Subsidised training under Career Start

Under Career Start, individuals may access up to two subsidised training places through one of the following options:

  1. A general training qualification at Certificate III level (either face-to-face or online course with Strategix) followed by an apprenticeship/traineeship.
Note: if you complete the apprenticeship/traineeship first, you will not be eligible for Career Start funding for a general qualification

    OR
  2. Two apprenticeships/traineeships at Certificate II or III level. This can include School-Based Apprenticeships or Traineeships (SATs)

When you choose a general trainining qualification with Strategix, concession card holders pay as little as $20, and non-concessional students pay just $50. The rest of the course fee is subsidised by Career Start.

Important: Once you complete a Certificate III general qualification under Career Start, you won’t be able to use Career Start funding again for another non-apprenticeship or traineeship course. Make sure you carefully consider your career goals and training options before making a decision.

Student fees may be paid on behalf of a student by a referring agency such as a Workforce Australia Provider or other employment service provider. High school graduates, school leavers and Yr13 students may also apply.

What is a general training qualification?

The term general qualification refers to training courses and skill sets that are open for direct enrolment and are conducted face-to-face at one of our convenient locations or online. Unlike an apprenticeship or traineeship, general qualification enrolments do not require a formal training contract with an employer, making it a flexible way to gain recognised skills and qualifications to start a new career or improve your current employment options.

What is an apprenticeship/traineeship?

For apprenticeships and traineeships, an individual must be employed as an apprentice or trainee. This pathway is part of the Australian Apprenticeships system and requires all parties to sign an Apprenticeship and Traineeship Training Contract.
