About the training

The Lower Fees, Local Skills program provides eligible Western Australian residents with an opportunity to access training subsidised by the Western Australian Government.

Subsidised training

Through the Lower Fees, Local Skills funding, individuals are required to pay a reduced co-contribution fee to gain access to the government subsidy. Concession rates may apply for eligible individuals. The student tuition fees are indicative only and are subject to change given individual circumstances at enrolment. Additional fees may apply such as student service and resource fees.

Eligibility

You may be eligible to access funding through the Lower Fees, Local Skills program if you meet all the following requirements:

  • Are a Western Australian resident*
  • Are an Australian citizen or permanent resident of Australia**
  • Are not in school
  • Are 15yrs and over***
  • Have a valid Unique Student Identifier (USI)
  • Be unemployed or under-employed** and
  • Have a written referral from an Approved Participation Referral Agent for Job Seekers OR be self-referred or recruited by Strategix.

Students cannot be:

  • In prison, or
  • A resident of Christmas Island or Cocos Island, or
  • An active apprenticeship/traineeship training contract

* Students who are not a Western Australian resident may be eligible if they have:

  • A training contract registered in Western Australia; and
  • A Western Australian workplace address; and
  • The training is undertaken in Western Australia, if available

** Approved Visa subclasses described in the Fees and Charges Policy. Visa types are to be treated as Australian residents:

  • holders of a sub-class 309, 444, 785, 790, or 820 visa;
  • secondary holders of a temporary visa of sub-class 457or 482 visa;
  • holders of a Bridging Visa E (subclasses 050 and 051) where the visa holder has made a valid application for a visa of subclass 785 or 790;
  • Ukraine citizens who are holders of a visa sub-class 449 or 786;
  • Afghan citizens who are holders of a visa sub-class 449; and
  • holders of a bridging visa who are eligible to work, and who have made a valid application for a subclass 866.

*** Students U18yrs must have a DOE Notice of Arrangement.
