Fee-free vocational training for eligible Queensland high school students
Through the Queensland Government's VET in Schools (VETiS) 2026 and 2027 program, eligible Year 10, 11 and 12 students can complete selected Certificate I or Certificate II qualifications with their training fees fully covered by the Queensland Government.
Get qualified while you're still at school
VETiS gives students the opportunity to develop practical, job-ready skills and complete a nationally recognised qualification as part of their senior schooling.
Depending on the qualification completed, vocational education and training can also contribute credits towards a student's Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE). A completed Certificate II can contribute up to 4 QCE credits, while Certificate III and IV qualifications can contribute up to 8 QCE credits, subject to QCAA requirements and the amount of new learning completed.
That means students can work towards their QCE while gaining skills that can lead directly to employment, further training or higher-level qualifications.
How it works
1. Choose an eligible course
Students choose from the VETiS qualifications Strategix is approved to deliver.
2. We check eligibility
Strategix works with the student and their school to confirm eligibility for a Queensland Government-funded VETiS place.
3. Complete the training
Students undertake their nationally recognised training with Strategix, with delivery arranged to suit the program and participating school.
4. The Queensland Government covers the training fee
For eligible students, the Queensland Government pays Strategix for the funded training. There is no student or co-contribution fee for the VETiS-funded qualification.
About the Training
Strategix works with selected Queensland schools to deliver approved vocational training programs during school hours. Our team work directly with participating schools to coordinate suitable programs, student groups, timetables and delivery arrangements.
Depending on the course and school arrangement, training may be delivered at the school, at a Strategix training location or through an approved combination of delivery methods.
For schools, this means vocational training can become part of the student's regular school program rather than something they need to organise separately.

Certificate III and Diploma opportunities for school students
VETiS funding is primarily available for selected Certificate I and Certificate II qualifications through the general training pathway. But students don't have to stop at Certificate II.
Strategix works with selected schools to offer Certificate III and Diploma qualifications during school hours at reduced rates. These higher-level programs are not funded through the VETiS general training pathway, but they can give motivated students the opportunity to complete significant further study before they finish Year 12.
Depending on the qualification, these programs may also contribute additional credits towards the student's QCE. Certificate III qualifications can contribute up to 8 QCE credits, while eligible Diploma study undertaken while a student is enrolled at school can contribute QCE credit under QCAA's Complementary learning rules.

Who is eligible for VETiS funding?
For the general VETiS training pathway, a student must:
- be enrolled in Year 10, 11 or 12 at a Queensland secondary school
- not be an international secondary school exchange student
- Permanently reside in Queensland
- Have Australian/New Zealand citizenship or Australian Permanent Residency or on pathway to permanent residency
- Not have completed a qualification under VETiS funding previously

Frequently asked questions
What is VETiS?
VET in Schools (VETiS) allows Queensland secondary school students to undertake nationally recognised vocational education and training while they are still at school.
The Queensland Government funds selected qualifications that align with employment and further training opportunities.
Does the student have to pay for a VETiS-funded course?
No student or co-contribution fee applies where the student and qualification are eligible for funding under VETiS 2026 and 2027. The Queensland Government pays the approved training provider for the training.
Does VETiS count towards the QCE?
Yes. VET qualifications can contribute QCE credits. A Certificate II can contribute up to 4 QCE credits, while Certificate III and IV qualifications can contribute up to 8 QCE credits, depending on the qualification and the student's previous learning.
Can Year 10 students access VETiS?
Yes. The VETiS 2026 and 2027 program is available to eligible students in Years 10, 11 and 12.
Can a student complete more than one funded VETiS Certificate I or II?
Generally, the VETiS general training pathway provides one DTET-funded Certificate I or II opportunity. Students should therefore consider which qualification best supports their interests and intended pathway before using their funded place. Students can still undertake other training through their school or on a fee-for-service basis.
Can a student complete a Certificate III at school?
Yes.
Certificate III qualifications are not funded through the VETiS general training pathway, but offers selected Certificate III qualifications to students at participating schools at reduced fee-for-service rates, without VETiS funding.
Can students complete a Diploma while at school?
Selected Strategix Diploma qualifications may be made available through participating schools at reduced rates. These courses are not funded through VETiS, but may be completed during school hours where arrangements have been made with the school. Eligible Diploma study completed while the student is enrolled at school may also contribute QCE credits under QCAA rules.
Can Strategix deliver training at our school?
Yes, for selected schools and programs.
Our Team works with participating schools to coordinate approved courses, student numbers, timetabling and delivery arrangements.
Can a student do a school-based traineeship after completing a VETiS Certificate II?
Potentially, yes.
Completing a Certificate I or II through the VETiS general training pathway does not automatically prevent a student from later accessing an eligible funded school-based apprenticeship or traineeship. They cannot, however, undertake both DTET-funded qualifications at the same time.
What if a student isn't eligible for VETiS funding?
There may still be options.
Strategix offers fee-for-service vocational training and works with selected schools to provide some qualifications at reduced rates. Our Schools team can discuss suitable options based on the student's goals and the programs available through their school.
