Mohamed Abdulahi
Mohamed Abdulahi was born in Somalia, but now calls Australia home. In 1996, Abdulahi and his family fled civil war in Somalia, escaping to neighbouring Eritrea. It was here that Mohamed completed his primary and secondary schooling before going on to become a computer instructor at the Emkulu Refugee Camp junior school. He also started working for UNHCR and IOM Australia, assisting immigrants and refugees.
In 2014, Mohamed, his wife and three children moved to Australia where they set up a home and had three more beautiful children. Mohamed started working as a teacher aide at a local state school in Acacia Ridge, while continuing his work for UNHCR Australia.
But, Mohamed wanted to continue his education and improve his skills, so that he could help his family and give back to his community. He started looking for courses to further his education and was excited to find that the Australian Government provides support and payment plans for people to access education opportunities. Then one day, he met Sarah, a student studying at Strategix College, who talked about some of the qualifications offered by Strategix.
Mohamed enrolled in a Diploma of Leadership and Management with Strategix College. This was just the beginning. After graduating with his diploma, Mohamed was accepted to study a Bachelor of Aviation at Griffith University and has almost finished this degree. He is also studying a Master of Human Resource Management and a Master of Supply Chain and Logistics online at RMIT University.
When asked about his success, Mohamed replied, “I would first like to thank God, and then the Australian Government for helping me and accepting my family and I into this country. I would also like to thank the people at Strategix, who helped my find my pathway to university. They helped make my dreams come true.”
Mohamed is a shining example, not only to others in the Somali community, but to the broader Australian community as well.
“Start studying. Don’t wait for the right time, get started now. Don’t worry about being the best, be the first to change, be the first to take opportunities and take up the challenge”.
Will you take up the challenge?
