Employability Skills Training helps young job seekers (15-24 years) to improve their employability through training on the basic skills that Employers want, and training on how to find (and keep) a job.

About Strategix

We have been successfully delivering training to job seekers for 12 years, and in that time we have trained over 20,000 students from a diverse range of cultural backgrounds, levels of education, and age groups.

We have a long and successful history of delivering training to young job seekers with high student satisfaction rates (over 90%), completion rates over 85%, and over 50% of students gaining employment following training.

Our students are at the heart of all we do as we help them to “change the course of their life”.

This training is for any young job seekers registered with a Jobactive

Funding is available for targeted industries, priority groups and vocational pathways, (upon application) for programs that are developed in connection with employers and community organisations that lead to a possible job outcome for successful students. These courses are fee-free for the candidates and aim to help jobseekers gain the training they need to be work ready, and to introduce them to the industry.

What’s in the course?

There are two courses (blocks) that you can attend depending on your individual needs and circumstances. Each course has a duration of 75 hours (delivered over three or five weeks):

  • Block 1 – Work Skills

This block includes training on the critical foundation skills that employers are looking for like teamwork, planning, decision making, problem-solving etc.

  • Block 2 – Job Skills

This block includes training on job preparation, job hunting, interview skills and career development.

The training will be relevant, practical, interactive, interesting, challenging, engaging and, of course, fun. Learning by doing is a major focus in both courses with workplace based simulations and scenarios included to help prepare you for the workplace.

Block 1 – Work Skills

Each subject in Block 1 is delivered in an interactive learning environment that includes a mixture of group activities, discussions, case studies, role plays, videos, personal presentations, games and practical tasks. The subjects covered are:

  • procedures and WH&S
  • communication
  • teamwork
  • plan and organise
  • decision making

  • innovation
  • digital technology
  • what employers want
  • attitudes and behaviour
  • personal presentation
  • punctuality
  • reliability

Block 2 – Job Skills

The subjects covered in this block are all focussed towards finding and keeping a job, and include:

  • career & education planning
  • resume preparation
  • job hunting & research
  • recruitment methods
  • networking
  • applying for jobs
  • gathering references
  • interview preparation & practice
  • preparing to start your job

This block also includes one or more Industry Awareness experiences. These activities will provide you with an insight into a particular industry and what employers are looking for. These experiences are developed in conjunction with local employers from a wide range of industries and include:

  • Employer visits. We invite local employers from relevant industries to visit the course and address the class. They provide an overview of the industry, a detailed description of the business, potential job roles available, and what they are looking for as an employer.
  • Workplace Visits. The class is taken to a local business to tour the premises, experience work like conditions, gain first-hand experience of a particular industry, and hear from local employers about their expectations.

What will you learn?

We will conduct an assessment of your learning for all the relevant skills required in each Training Block against a number of accredited units. This means that you will receive a nationally recognised statement of attainment at the end of the course. The units are:

Training Block 1

    • MSMWHS200 – Work Safely
    • FSKOCM07 – Interact effectively with others at work
    • FSKLRG05 – Use strategies to plan simple workplace tasks

  • FSKDIG03 – Use digital technology for routine workplace tasks

 

Training Block 2

  • FSKLRG07 – Use strategies to identify job opportunities
  • FSKLRG03 – Use basic strategies for career planning

We maintain close links and partnerships with industry to ensure that our training meets industry needs and you are graduating with actual skills that employers can use straightaway. Opportunities for work experience, internships and employment may be available in the following industries:
